Oklahoma Sooners Lose 2019 DT Signee

Rich DeCray

The Oklahoma Sooners closed the 2019 recruiting cycle with a top five class in hand. However, the program lost an incoming freshman and signee after Derek Green decided to part ways with the university on Wednesday afternoon.

First reported by Josh McQuistion of Sooner Scoop, the father of the defensive tackle confirmed the news. Currently, it sounds as if Green made the decision to serve with the Armed Forces of the United States. “I am playing to go serve our country proudly.” said the recruit. Continuing the statement, the Oklahoma Sooners remain outside Green’s future as he said he would hit the transfer portal if he changes his mind.

If a time comes when Green chooses to return to the gridiron, expect the talented defensive lineman to file for immediate eligibility. But, how can you be upset with a kid choosing to serve his country?

“I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.” – Nathan Hale
