To date Oklahoma’s only two losses in softball have come to the #1 and #2 teams in the nation. That has the Sooners leaving a wake of destruction against the remaining opponents, with Cal State Fullerton the latest victim.
Mariah Lopez improved her season record to 6-1 on Sunday morning by tossing 3.2 innings of work which resulted in just one run, off two hits, and six strike outs.
Senior Caleigh Clifton was the spark plug for the OU offense. Batting lead-off, she went 4-for-5 from the plate with two doubles and a home run. She knocked in 5 RBI and crossed home plate once herself on a home run over left field that also scored Jocelyn Alo.
Shay Knighten also left the park, delivering a solo blast, over left field, to open up the scoring in the bottom of the second. In all, Oklahoma scored nine runs off eight hits while collecting their first run-rule victory of the weekend and fifth of the season.
Fourth-ranked Oklahoma will conclude play at the Mary Nutter Classic, in Palm Springs, California, this afternoon against UC Santa Barbara.
