The Oklahoma Sooners secured a series sweep on Sunday after a commanding 16-0 decision over the Baylor Bears. Marking the 46th consecutive home victory, the current streak dates back to May 20th, 2017 which breaks a seventeen year old school record. Sporting a 6-0 conference record, Patty Gasso’s ballclub looks to repeat as Big 12 Champions once again.
Stepping into the circle, Shannon Saile wowed the crowd behind a flurry of strikeouts. In three innings of work, the junior right-handed pitcher struck out four batters. Surrendering two hits, Saile refused to give up a run on the day. The effort anchored the defense which provided a 16th shutout win on the year. Improving to 7-1 this season, Saile fills many roles inside of this pitching staff.
On the offensive side of the equation, Caliegh Clifton remained perfect at the plate. In two appearances, the senior crushed a two-run blast over the center field wall in the bottom of the opening frame. Later the second baseman collected a triple before scoring on a fielding error. In total, Clifton scored three times while driving in four on the afternoon.
Up next, the Sooners will travel to Lawrence for a weekend series with the Kansas Jayhawks.
