Picking up where she left off from Oklahoma’s 12-0 win, over UMBC, on Friday night, Giselle “G” Juarez was dominant from the circle on Saturday afternoon against Wisconsin. The junior pitcher held the Badgers without a hit and struck out 16 batters.
Sydney Romero scored on a throwing error, by Badgers’ catcher Taylor Johnson, in the top of the first but Oklahoma’s offense was kept silent in the second, third, and fourth innings by Wisconsin pitcher Haley Hestekin.
The Sooners struck again in the fifth when Grace Green sent an RBI single to right field, allowing Caleigh Clifton to cross home and making it a 2-0 game.
Clifton came up huge again in the top of the seventh with a 2-run homer to left center field that scored her and Grace Lyons, completely deflating any hopes Wisconsin had of pulling an upset.
Juarez returned to the circle for the bottom of the seventh and struck out the side to complete her third no-hitter of the season and fourth of her career.
Saturday’s 4-0 win secured a spot in Sunday’s regional championship. Whoever advances from the field would have to beat the Sooners twice on Sunday to prevent Oklahoma from making next weekend’s Super Regional round.
First pitch on Sunday is slated for 1:00 pm (CT).
