Anchoring the offensive production at the University of Oklahoma, the upperclassmen continue to find themselves on preseason watch lists. Most recently, the Biletnikoff Award Watch List which recognizes the nation’s most outstanding receiver regardless of position featured a pair of Sooners — senior wide out Ceedee Lamb and junior tight end Grant Calcaterra.
Last season, Lamb ranked 76th in the nation in receptions a 65 total. Proving to be a productive receiver, the now senior made the most of the opportunities while racking up 1,158 yards of offense. That number placed Lamb in the top twenty-five of all college receivers for the year. Adding 11 touchdowns to the resume, Lamb is once again expected to build upon those numbers.
Listed along side three other tight ends, Calcaterra size posed problems for defenders all season long. Now an upperclassman, the junior’s role and responsibility within the offense are expected to grow. Averaging 15.2 yard per catch, the tight end plays a vital role in Lincoln Riley’s system. Finding a way to get the ball into Calcaterra’s hands has paid dividends in the past and will continue to do so in the future.
Of course, the Biletnikoff Award is based upon actual performances and not potential. With several finalists returning to the college ranks, the race for the award should remain an interesting one!
