Fears were confirmed on Friday afternoon when Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley stated that defensive back Tre Norwood would miss the 2019 football season.
Norwood, from Fort Smith has started 19 consecutive games for the Sooners, including 14 starts a year ago. He finished fifth on the team with 58 tackles and iced the Big 12 Championship by picking off Sam Ehlinger in the final minute of the conference title game.
Expected to be OU’s primary starter at the nickelback position, Norwood’s injury puts an even bigger spotlight on sophomore Brendan Radley-Hiles, who will be the primary option as a replacement.
