The Houston Cougars are paying Dana Holgorsen a lot of money to take their football program to new heights and their newest coach is absolutely delivering…in the hype department.
Speaking at a pep rally, as Game Week officially gets underway, Holgorsen said that the Cougars are embracing the expectations on the season and will unquestionably return from Norman 1-0 on the season.
“We embrace these expectations. Our job is to bring championships,” Holgorsen said. “We start in Norman, Oklahoma and we can’t wait to go up there and play those guys and bring back a victory. There’s no question about that.”

Now, to be fair, Holgorsen could have easily been saying that there’s “no question” they can’t wait to go play football and get the season started, but that wouldn’t be very Dana Holgorsen like. One thing we know about the offensive genius, from his days in the Big 12, is that he’s not lacking in confidence.
He was 0-7 coaching against the Sooners for West Virginia, losing by an average score of 40-21 in Norman. He was also 0-1 against OU as the offensive coordinator for Oklahoma State, losing 47-41 in Stillwater during the 2010 season.
Oklahoma and Houston will kickoff the 2019 season on Sunday evening September 1st. The Sooners are 2-1 all-time against the Cougars, losing their last contest 33-23 to start the 2016 season.
