Earlier in the year, the Oklahoma Sooners inherited one of the most notable transfers of the offseason. After arriving on campus, the leadership skills of Jalen Hurts immediately captivated an entire locker room. Despite finding a new home, the seasoned quarterback cemented himself in the race for one of the captain roles.
On Wednesday, by a vote of their peers, the team captains names were released. The short list featured none other than Jalen Hurts alongside three others who reacted later that evening.
“It’s probably the biggest thing to me up to this point,” Hurts told members of the media. “I know at Alabama, I played a significant role on a lot of their teams there in my three years. Being a captain was always my goal and really, one of my dreams, going down in Denny Chimes and all of that.”
“But at this home, with this family, my teammates voting me captain. Only being here seven and a half, eight months, it’s a blessing, it’s kind of surreal. I’m happy.”
Clearly, Hurts is excited to be a part of this team and to work on progressing not only as a leader but also a quarterback. In the same breath, Sooner fans are just as ecstatic that Hurts will be leading the team into war each and every weekend.
