The Oklahoma Sooners escaped with weekend with a win in hand but the contest proved costly in other terms. On Monday afternoon, the Lincoln Riley delivered the devastating news that Kenneth Mann and Trey Sermon sustained season-ending injuries. Both will require surgery sending the duo to the sideline for the foreseeable future.
As a redshirt senior, Mann recorded five tackles including a sack in six games. The defensive lineman provided depth and experience at a position ripe with young talent. Moving forward the Sooners will rely on the likes LaRon Stokes, a junior transfer, and Jalen Redmond to carry the majority of the responsibility.
Not receiving the same level of responsibility that many expected, Trey Sermon carried the ball a mere 54 times this season. With one touch against Iowa State, the running back collected 14 yards before injury struck. Part of the physical running game, Oklahoma continues to favor Jalen Hurts. Yet, Kennedy Brooks now assumes the role of the feature back.
