Throughout the latter half of the season, Grant Calcaterra remained noticeably absent from the field of play. Labeled as a potential first round pick, the tight end revealed the reason behind the disappearance on Thursday evening. Citing concussions, the junior announced a retirement from football as a player.
Clearly a difficult decision to make, Calcaterra accounted for five receptions and 79 yards this year before ultimate suffering an injury. With a single conference game under his belt, the tight end watched from the sideline for a majority of the season. Yet, the value and experience Calcaterra brings to the table are certain going to make the likes of Austin Stogner a better individual on and off the field in the future.
While you hate to see a player make such a decision, health must be at the forefront of the conversation. For now, we wish nothing but the best to Calcaterra in any and all future endeavors.
