Returning to action, the Oklahoma Sooners crossed the Red River for a pairing with the North Texas Mean Green. Trailing late into the contest, the visiting team utilized a bit of late game heroics to secure an 82-80 victory. Behind the win, Lon Kruger’s squad improves to 7-1 on the season.

With under 24 seconds in regulation, the Sooners gained possession of the ball. Looking to end the game in a single moment, Kristian Doolittle stepped out past the arc. Receiving the ball, the senior stared down the defender. Creeping toward the 3-point, Doolittle gathered the ball just before launching the shot. Finding the bottom of the net, the forward secured an 81-78 lead as all the pressure fell on North Texas.

On the other end of the court, Austin Reaves committed the foul sending UNT’s Umoja Gibson. Standing at the charity stripe, the sophomore closed the gap after connecting on both attempts. Needing something to happen in order to shock the Sooners, the aggressiveness of the defense failed the Mean Green.

A free throw from Brady Manek became the final score of night as UNT missed the closing 3-point attempt. Clearly the veteran’s of the program provided valuable minutes on the floor. Escaping with a win in a close battle, the Sooners must now focus on Wichita State.
