The Oklahoma Sooners graduate three defensive tackles this spring leaving a glaring hole along the line. In desperate need of experience and depth at the tackle position during the recruiting cycle, the program offered one prospect earlier in the month of December. Reciprocating the interest, Josh Ellison scheduled an official visit days before the recruit is set to make a commitment.
Initially, Ellison committed to the Texas A&M Aggies before reopening his recruiting process on December 3. As a JUCO prospect, the defensive tackle showcased the awareness required to be successful in the Big 12 Conference. Combined with the size and ability to penetrate into the backfield, Ellison projects well in the new ‘Speed D’ utilized in Norman.
Knowing Lincoln Riley tweeted out a set of eyes after meeting with Ellison, it appears as though the puzzle is quickly coming together. Could the defensive tackle be the second at the position to join the class of 2020? Only time will tell.
