After dropping consecutive contests in conference play, the Oklahoma Sooners looked to bounce back. Standing in the way, the TCU Horned Frogs traveled to Lloyd Noble Center for the first of two meetings between the teams. Claiming an 11-4 margin after a De’Vion Harmon three pointer, the home team seized control of the game. Refusing to look back, Lon Kruger coached the program to a sizable 83-63 victory as OU improved to 3-2 in Big 12 play.
Posting a dismal 25% shooting effort in the previous outing, Brady Manek torched the nets on Saturday. Stretching the floor consistently and knocking down contested shots, the forward dropped a 15-point first half. Continuing to pace the rest of bench, Manek collected a team high 31 point in the route of the Horned Frogs. Connecting on 67% of the attempted shots, the junior remained the focal point of the scoring effort throughout the afternoon. More impressively, Manek knocked down seven 3-point attempts while sitting one rebound short of a double-double.
Joining the cause, the rest of the team helped the Sooners connect on 53.7% of the shots from the field. It’s extremely difficult to defend a team that shoots the ball at a clip above the fifty percent mark. Adding to the task, 20 of the 29 made baskets were assisted.
However, the one stat line that fans should continue to monitor is the rebound margin.
On the afternoon, Oklahoma secured 34 total rebounds to claim a +2 margin on the board. For this specific team, winning this battle has resulted in victories and will likely continue to do so. Until next time, this appears to be the most dominant performance OU has posted in the 2019-2020 season.
Up next, the Sooners will face No. 2 Baylor on the road.
