Radio Host Suspended For Derogatory Baker Mayfield Comment

M. Hofeld

Longtime Cleveland sports journalist Tony Grossi and Baker Mayfield pretty much haven’t seen eye-to-eye since day one of the former Oklahoma quarterback landing with the Browns.

Last season Mayfield walked away from the media after Grossi asked a question that the former Heisman winner said was “dumb”. Prior to that Grossi accused Mayfield of being demanding on his visits with NFL teams prior to the draft and has also accused the quarterback of being disrespectful to the media.

So during a segment for ESPN Radio’s Cleveland affiliate in which quarterbacks the Browns had missed out on was the topic of discussion, Grossi said, “And who do we got? A f–king midget,” thinking his mic was turned off.

The word “midget” is deemed derogatory in today’s culture and ESPN Cleveland quickly released a statement stating such.

“The term Tony used is a derogatory slur to describe Little People. . . . We are addressing this matter with Tony directly, and while we normally do not comment on personnel matters, we do want to share that we have made the decision to immediately and indefinitely suspend Tony Grossi.”

  1. So we’ll suspend “midget,” but not the “f” word that preceded it? Filthy word infinitely more offensive.
