Preseason award watch lists continue to roll out and several Oklahoma State players find themselves making the cut. The most recent to release a full slate of candidates is none other than the Butkus Award. Given annually to the nation’s premiere linebacker, two Cowboys appear in the initial announcement.
Amen Ogbongbemiga posted 100 tackle during the 2019 campaign. More impressively, the linebacker racked up 15.5 tackles for loss to lead the program in the statistical category. Tacking on one interception and a fumblr recovery, Ogbongbemiga is hoping to continue to upward trend that landed him on the All-Big 12 Second Team.
Joining his teammate as the only two players from the same Big 12 program to hit the watch list, Malcolm Rodriguez accounted for 103 total tackles. A player that has the ability to get into the backfield, the linebacker also tallied four quarterback hurries and three pass breakups. The effort proved worthy of All-Big 12 Second Team honors as well.
Knowing they’ll be competing against one another for the award could boost the productivity. However, it’s safe to say that O-State may have the best linebacking crew in the conference this season.
