Reports: Marcus Major Replaces T.J. Pledger As Oklahoma’s Starting Running Back

Rumors began to swirl on Friday that Oklahoma would have several players miss the season opener against Missouri State due to positive COVID-19 tests. One of the players mentioned in those rumors was starting running back T.J. Pledger. According to Nate Feken, of News 4, there may be some truth to the rumors as he’s reporting Marcus Major will start at running back instead of Pledger.

Pledger was thrust into the starting role after Kennedy Brooks opted out for the season. The departure of Brooks left Pledger, a junior, as Oklahoma’s most experienced running back. Now it appears as if the Sooners will look to a redshirt freshman in Major to carry the load.

Coming out of Millwood High School (Oklahoma City), Major was a 4-star recruit by both ESPN and Rivals. He carried the ball 10 times for 28 yards as a true freshman in 2019 before suffering a season-ending injury.
