Two Sooners Bring In Weekly Conference Honors

The Big 12’s opening weekend of football has come and gone and, as Oklahoma fans are accustomed to, Monday’s weekly conference includes members of the crimson and cream. Spencer Rattler was named as the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week and kicker Stephen Johnson was named Special Teams Player of the Week.

Completing 14 of 17 passes for 290 yards and four touchdowns, without an interception, Rattler did all of his damage to the Missouri State defense in the first half and then watched from the sidelines for the final thirty minutes. While guiding the Sooners to 31 points in the first half, Rattler set OU freshman records for passing efficiency rating (303.3; next highest figure nationally this season is 239.1), yards per completion (23.7) and yards per attempt (17.1).

Johnson, a redshirt senior, handled all of OU’s kicking duties Saturday night in the absence of Gabe Brkic. He was 2 for 2 on field goals (22 and 42 yards), made all six of his PATs and kicked off nine times. His 12 points were the most of any Big 12 kicker on the day.
