Tanner Mordecai Hits The Transfer Portal

Let’s be honest. We’ve seen this coming for a year now. Initially thinking it was going to happen last off season Tanner Mordecai made it through the 2020 season, playing an key role in Oklahoma’s win over Texas, before officially entering the transfer portal.

A 3-star prospect from Waco, Texas, Mordecai came to Oklahoma as a member of the 2018 recruiting class. After a redshirt year, he saw action in six games during the 2019 season

A 3-star prospect from Waco, Texas, Mordecai came to Oklahoma as a member of the 2018 recruiting class. After a redshirt year, he saw action in six games during the 2019 season, completing 16 of 26 passes (60.0%) for 207 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions.

Mordecai’s biggest accomplishment as a Sooner came on October 10th of this season when he held the line for Oklahoma during the second quarter of the Red River Rivalry game while Spencer Rattler collected himself. Rattler returned in the second half as a different quarterback and many will look at that as the turning point for Oklahoma’s season. That moment most likely isn’t possible without Tanner Mordecai.

Entering the portal makes sense for Mordecai. He is a talented quarterback but Rattler has the starting quarterback position locked down and Caleb Williams, the top quarterback in the 2021 recruiting class, will be on campus next fall.
