After a slew of Florida Gator players opted out of the Cotton Bowl, news from the opposite camp is now coming out. Scheduled to take the field on Wednesday, the Oklahoma Sooners will be without Austin Stogner and Jadon Haselwood.
It comes as no surprise that Stogner will not be available. Through the course of the year, the sophomore recorded 25 catches and three touchdowns. However, the tight end has not appeared in a contest since November 11. Opting to utilize other names in the absence of Stogner, the Sooners continue to try to solve the equation with the big bodied receiver.
More surprising is the fact that several news outlets mentioned Haselwood would not be traveling with the team to Dallas. Initially expected to miss the duration of the year due to injury, the former 5-star saw action in three games this year. Accounting for 65 yards of offense, it seemed as though the sophomore was inching closer to being 100% for the bowl game. Instead the story took a turn.
Rest assured, Haselwood’s absence has been approved by the coaching staff according to Brandon Drumm of OUInsider. In addition, various other sources confirmed that the receiver does not intend to enter the transfer portal. While the reason for the absence remains unclear, Oklahoma must prepare offensively without two of the bigger weapons available.
