Lynnsie Elam went 4-for-4 from the plate, Grace Lyons homered, and “G” Juarez pitched six scoreless innings as Oklahoma pounded Team Mexico in the first of a three-game exhibition series this weekend. The Sooners used a 7-run sixth inning to pull away from Team Mexico after building a 4-0 lead through the first five frames of the evening.
Juarez was stellar from the circle. She kept Team Mexico off the board through her six innings of work, allowing just two hits and striking out four batters. Shannon Saile relieved Juarez and pitched a perfect seventh inning to protect the shutout.
Oklahoma’s first run of the evening was scored when Jana Johns came home on a single through the left side from Elam in the bottom of the second. The Sooners plated three more runs in the bottom of the third off three swings of the bat, including a solo home run from Lyons to left field.
It was the sixth inning that proved to be the difference maker for the Sooners though. Oklahoma sent twelve batters to the plate in the frame with seven of them making it around the bases to home plate. Elam recorded two hits in the inning, including an RBI single to center field to score Jayda Coleman for the game’s final run.
Former Oklahoma star Sydney Romero played center field for Team Mexico and batted #2 in the order. She went 0-for-3 on the night with two foul outs and a fly out to right field in the top of the first.
