Caleb Williams gave Oklahoma fans everything they wanted and then some on Saturday as the true freshman threw the only touchdown pass of the spring game while also leading the team in rushing. While no logical fan is rushing to push Spencer Rattler out the door, there’s also no shortage of praise being thrown towards Williams. Lincoln Riley was asked about the performance of the star-to-be and it’s not surprising that you can count him in as a fan of #13 as well.
“Yeah, I thought Caleb was solid. I thought he was pretty decisive on the day. Which, you guys hear me use that word all the time when referencing quarterbacks, but that’s I think so important at that position. And I thought he had one of the most decisive days that he probably had all spring out there today. So he just kind of felt calm and in control really the whole time. I thought he made good decisions, made some pretty good throws, got the ball out of his hands. So yeah, I thought for the first time out there and kind of in that moment, I thought he did a nice job. And he’s still got so many things to clean up and learn, as we go forward, but I think he certainly has ability to do a lot of things well and showed some of those things today.”Lincoln Riley on Caleb Williams’ spring game performance
Williams completed 10 of 11 passing attempts for 99 yards during the scrimmage. It was the highest number of completions among the four quarterbacks that played and his touchdown pass to Jackson Sumlin was the only score through the air for the afternoon.
Williams also flashed his ability to pick up yards on the ground, finishing the day as the leading rusher. He carried the ball 6 times for 61 yards leaving everyone to think about the crazy number of possibilities he has in Riley’s offense.
