Wichita State is one win away from Sunday! After holding off #3 seed Texas A&M the #2 seed Shockers will enter the winner’s bracket and play the winner of Oklahoma and Morgan State at 3:00 on Saturday afternoon.
A 5-run fifth inning helped Wichita State build a 9-3 lead but the Aggies still had a late push in them. A&M scored one run in the sixth and three in the seventh before going down, with two runners left on base, in a 9-7 defeat. Madison Perrigan went 2-for-4 from the plate, scoring twice and knocking in four runs, to lead the Wichita State offense. Both of her hits were 2-run home runs. The first came in the opening frame to put the Shockers up 2-0. He second dinger came in the bottom of the fifth to cap WSU’s scoring at nine runs.
The Aggies were held to just five hits in the game but Bre Warren and Dani Elder were both responsible for knocking in two runs. Warren went deep to right center field in the top of the third to pull A&M to within 4-3 of Wichita State. Elder hit a 2-RBI double up the third base line in the top of the seventh to make game much tighter at 9-7 but that was the final time the Aggies would cross home plate on the day.
Texas A&M must now win twice on Saturday in order to advance to Sunday’s regional championship game. They’ll start by taking on the loser of tonight’s Oklahoma/Morgan State game at 5:30 on Saturday.
