Sooners Upset By James Madison In WCWS Opener

For the first time in the postseason Oklahoma finds itself on the brink of elimination. The Sooners fell to James Madison by a final score of 4-3 on Thursday and must now find a way to advance through the loser’s bracket in order to make it to the finals.

JMU took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third when Sara Jubas went deep for a three-run blast.

Oklahoma battled back to in the bottom half of the frame thanks to a three-run bomb from Freshman of the Year Tiare Jennings. That would be it for Oklahoma’s scoring on the day as solid defensive play and stellar pitching from JMU’s Odicci Alexander kept the Sooners at bay in a game that was destined for extras.

The decisive and final run came in the top of the top of the 8th when Kate Gordon went deep with a solo shot that put the Dukes up by the final of 4-3.

Oklahoma will now wait to see how the loser’s bracket shakes out before taking the field again on Saturday.
