Tuesday morning brought great news for the Oklahoma State football team as Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame and Jim Thorpe Association released their preseason watch list for the 2021 Paycom Jim Thorpe Award, which is given to the nation’s top defensive back. On that list was Cowboy safety Kolby Harvell-Peel.
Harvell-Peel has been one of Oklahoma State’s top defensive players for the last couple of seasons, as well as one of the Big 12’s top defensive backs, and he is due for a big senior season. As a junior, Harvell-Peel was a second team All-Big 12 selection after being a first team selection as a sophomore. Last season he recorded 44 tackles and 2 interceptions, including a big one against Iowa State.
The Cowboys will lean heavily on their defense this year, and Kolby Harvell-Peel will undoubtedly be a big part of that. If he can put together an impressive season that includes winning the Jim Thorpe Award, there is truly no way to tell just how successful a season Oklahoma State football can have.
