It’s officially official, Oklahoma will face Oregon in the Alamo Bowl on December 29th. It’ll be the third trip to San Antonio for the Ducks and the first ever Alamo Bowl appearance for the Sooners. Oregon has a 1-1 record in the Alamo Bowl, beating Texas 30-7 in 2013 and then losing 47-41 to TCU in 2016.
The Pac 12 runners up, Oregon finished the 2021 football season with a 10-3 record. The Ducks are ranked No. 14 in the latest CFP rankings and No. 15 in bothe the AP and Coaches polls. Most recently they lost 38-10 to Utah in Friday’s Pac-12 Championship, but they also had lost to Utah 38-7 on Nov. 20 and at Stanford, 31-24, on Oct. 2. The Ducks rank 45th in scoring offense (31.4 ppg) and 60th in scoring defense (25.5 ypg).
Meanwhile, Oklahoma had a six-year streak of Big 12 domination snapped in 2021. The Sooners sat out this year’s conference championship game as Baylor held on to beat Oklahoma State, qualifying to represent the Big 12 in the Sugar Bowl. Oklahoma State’s invitation to the Fiesta Bowl opened the door for OU to take the Big 12’s second place bowl matchup.
The Sooners finished the season losing two of their final three games. With a 10-2 record, Oklahoma in No. 16 in the CFP rankings, No. 14 in the AP poll and No. 13 in the Coaches poll. The Sooners rank 10th nationally in scoring offense (38.4 ppg) and 56th in scoring defense (25.2 ppg).
Oklahoma is making its 23rd consecutive bowl appearance and 55th overall which ranks fourth most nationally.
