In the cutthroat world of college football recruiting it isn’t just possible that opposing coaches would pounce on a situation like what Oklahoma is experiencing, it’s even expected. In the wake of Cale Gundy’s departure from the Sooner coaching staff thoughts began to move towards the 2023 recruiting class and what impact it might have. At least one player wanted to put any rumors of him possibly wavering on his commitment to be. Houston, Texas receiver Jaquaize Pettaway posted on Twitter Wednesday afternoon that his commitment is firm.
Rated as a 4-star prospect by 247Sports, Pettaway (5-11/170) is a Top 40 prospect. Rated as the #6 receiver in the class, and the #5 overall prospect from the state of Texas, it’s easy to understand why other programs would want to take a run at him. He’s currently sitting on 28 scholarship offers, including the likes of Georgia, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Texas.
Pettaway committed to Oklahoma just over a month ago, on July 6th, and was primarily recruited by Cale Gundy. Tallahassee, FL. prospect Keyon Brown is also committed to the Sooners as was recruited by Gundy. Oklahoma currently has 19 commitments towards the class of 2023 and ranks #7 nationally.
