Venables On Dillon Gabriel vs. Kansas, “I Expect Him To Play”

On the day that the Jayhawks received some bad news Oklahoma received quite the opposite. Brent Venables said during his weekly press conference that quarterback Dillon Gabriel was a full go in practice and that he expected the Sooner quarterback to play against Kansas. Venables stopped short of saying Gabriel’s return was a 100% certainty but the news he provided was enough to draw some enthusiasm among a fanbase that’s desperate for something positive to happen.

In Gabriel’s absence Oklahoma’s offense came to a complete stop. Last week against Texas the Sooners mustered just 39 passing yards and 156 total yards of offense in the shutout loss. Granted, a return of Gabriel to the field won’t fix the issues by the defense but it’ll at least revitalize an Oklahoma offense that was Top 10 nationally in yards per game before he went out against TCU. On the season Gabriel has completed 63.9% of his passes for 1,215 yards and 11 touchdowns with no interceptions.

Meanwhile it was also announced on Tuesday that the Jayhawks announced that they will be without starting quarterback Jalon Daniels who will be out for the remainder of the season with a separated shoulder.

Jason Bean replaced Daniels against TCU last Saturday and threw for 262 yards, and four touchdowns, with an interception in KU’s 38-31 loss to TCU.
