Sooners Edge Out USC For Trace Ford Transfer

Defensive end Trace Ford is swapping colors. He’s moving from Orange and Black to Crimson and Cream but he could easily have gone with Red and Yellow. Former Oklahoma defensive coordinator Alex Grinch had his eyes set on bringing Ford to Los Angeles but the Edmond, Oklahoma native announced via social media on Wednesday that he’s staying in the Sooner state.

Ford becomes the fifth player that Venables and company have added through the transfer portal and four of the five will play on the defensive side of the ball. The 6-3/240 defensive end was an All-Big 12 honorable mention in 2019 and in 2020 before missing the 2021 season due to a knee injury. During limited action in the 2022 season he recorded 8 tackles and a quarterback sack. He leaves OSU with 59 total tackles, 8.5 quarterback sacks, three forced fumbles, 14 passes defensed and an interception.

With two years of eligibility remaining he’s a great addition to Oklahoma’s roster. The fact that he turned down Lincoln Riley to commit to the Sooners makes it that much more sweet.
