The road to the Big 12 Tournament championship starts on Friday for Oklahoma. For everyone else, it starts on Thursday! That’s just one of the many benefits of riding a nation’s best 41-game winning streak and sailing through the conference slate unscathed. The Sooners will wait for the winner of the Baylor/Iowa State game to take their shot at advancing to Saturday’s championship round. Meanwhile, Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and Kansas will battle it out on the opposite side of the bracket in an effort to get to Saturday.
The Big 12 Tournament is single elimination and gets underway at Noon on Thursday with Baylor/Iowa State. The Sooners are heavy favorites to advance through the weekend and be the top overall seed when the NCAA Tournament begins on May 19th.
Oklahoma didn’t just run through the competition in Big 12 play, they dominated it! The Sooners were the top hitting (.368), top fielding (0.988) and had the best battery of pitchers in the conference (0.87 ERA). Led by Jayda Coleman’s .439 batting average, half of the Top 10 hitters in the conference wore the crimson and cream. Coleman was #2 in the Big 12 followed by Tiare Jennings (#3), Kinzie Hansen (#4), Alyssa Brito (#5), and Jordy Bahl (#10).
Nicole May (0.55 ERA), Alex Storako (0.77 ERA) and Jordy Bahl (1.19 ERA) were the top three pitchers in the conference and the Sooners also had five of the Top 10 players in the Big 12 in fielding.
OU’s current 41-game winning streak ties the program that was set by the 2019 team.
