MLB Best Bet For August 3, 2023 | Mariners vs. Angels

We took it on the chin yesterday, going 0-3, and once again the dangers of the risks we’re taking come to light. We had a great 9-day run placing imaginary $10 wagers but getting shutout yesterday now has us in a $-21.30 deficit for this week. The good news is that we’re only at Thursday and we still have until Sunday to make it up. The bad news is that there’s no more room for error. Tonight we’re going to be looking at Seattle (56-52) vs. the Los Angeles Angels (56-53).

The Pitchers

L.A.’s Shohei Ohtani (9-5, 3.43) is one of the greatest phenoms in Major League Baseball right now. He is the literal definition of a one-man show. From the mound he’s won in three of his last five starts. During that span he’s allowed just an average of 3 earned runs per game, while striking out a combined 39 batters. He’s won back-to-back games (Pittsburgh & Detroit) heading into tonight’s matchup with the Mariners.

Seattle’s Bryan Woo (1-3, 4.96 ERA) hasn’t scored a win since June 22 (NY Yankees) and he’s faced some struggles recently. Against Minnesota, three starts ago, he only lasted 3.1 innings and over his last five starts he’s allowed an average of 3.2 runs while never making it past six innings.

The Line Ups

Seattle’s offense is led by the three-headed monster of Julio Rodriguez (17 home runs), J.P. Crawford (.260 batting average), and Eugenio Suarez (69 RBI). The Mariners have scored 23 runs over the last five games.

Remember when I said that Shohei Ohtani was a one-man show? He does it all for the Angels! He leads the team in home runs (39), batting average (.307), and RBI (81). The Angels have scored 14 runs over the last five games.

The Streaks

Seattle is coming off a win against Boston and has won three of its last four games. The Angels have lost two in a row.

The Odds

Angels -1.5

Angels on the moneyline at -156

O/U 8.5

I’m sticking with my plan! I like the Mariners to not only keep this to within a run but I think they have a chance to steal a divisional game against an Angels lineup that has struggled recently. The Mariners are -150 as the underdogs which means there’s agreement with me and that this game could go either way. I like Seattle at +135 on the moneyline because it’s a realistic bet and it gives us the opportunity to recoup some of our losses from Wednesday. I have been murdered by picking the under this week but here I am doing it again. We can’t lose on it every time, right?
