MLB Best Bet For August 16, 2023 | Phillies vs. Blue Jays

We bounced back a little bit on Tuesday night, winning two of our three bets, and cut our losses down to $-24.60 on the week. Obviously we still have a long way to go but at least we can celebrate a winning night after a disastrous Monday that we had. We’re actually going to be sticking to the same two teams once again, as this is the second time our random generator picked the same matchup two nights in a row. It’s time for Philadelphia (65-55) and Tronto (67-54) Part II.

The Pitchers

Toronto is going to try and make it back-to-back wins against Philly with Kevin Gausman (9-6, 3.04 ERA) on the mound. Gausman has wins in two of his last three starts and has allowed an average of two earned runs per game over his last five. He pitched seven scoreless innings against Cleveland his last time out.

Philadelphia’s Aaron Nola (9-8, 4.49) has one win in his last five appearances. He’s allowing an average of 3.2 earned runs per contest during that time and has failed to make it into the sixth inning in each of his last three starts.

The Lineups

Kyle Schwarber leads the Phillies with 30 home runs. Bryson Scott paces the team with a .298 batting average, and Alec Bohm has knocked in 74 RBI. The Phillies have scored 21 runs in the last five games.

Vladimir Guerrero and Bo Bichette are charging the Toronto offense. Guerrero has blasted 18 home runs, with 72 RBI, and Bichette has a team-best .321 batting average. The Blue Jays have scored 23 runs in the last five games.

The Streaks

Toronto has won two games in a row while Philadelphia is on a three-game losing streak.

The Odds

Blue Jays -1.5

Blue Jays -150 on the moneyline

O/U 7.5

I feel like Tuesday night was Philadelphia’s chance to grab a win but it wasn’t in the cards. I like Toronto for tonight but the moneyline isn’t great. I think we’re looking at a final close to what we saw last night so that means we’ll take the Phillies at +1.5 and then the under.
