MLB Best Bet For August 17, 2023 | Diamondbacks vs. Padres

This hasn’t been a good week. Yesterday was another loser! We went 1-2 on our Phillies/Blue Jays picks, dropping our record to 3-6 on the week and putting us in a disadvantageous $-39.04 deficit. There’s still hope that we can climb out of the hole, but at this point we’re just hoping to limit the damage. For tonight’s game we’re going to take a look at Arizona (61-60) vs. San Diego (58-63).

The Pitchers

Zac Gallen (12-5, 3.24 ERA) is has just one win over his last five outings and has gone six innings, or more, in all five of those games. He’s allowing an average of 2.6 earned runs per game during that span and has struck out 35 batters.

Rich Hill (7-12, 5.17 ERA) has struggled to go deep into his starts recently. The deepest he’s gone in the last five outings is 5.2 innings and, in the last two, he’s only made it through 3.1 and 3 innings. He’s allowing an average of 3.4 runs per outing over the last five.

The Lineups

Christian Walker is pacing the Diamondbacks with 28 home runs and 82 RBI, while Ketel Marte has a team-best .277 batting average. Arizona has scored just 29 runs over the last five games.

The Padres have a duo of offensive leaders with Juan Soto leading the team in home runs (24) and RBI (75), while Ha-Seon Kim leads in batting average (.284). San Diego has scored 20 runs over the last five games.

The Streaks

Both teams come into tonight’s matchup on a two-game winning streak. The Diamondbacks have won four of the last five.

The Odds

Diamondbacks -1.5

Diamondbacks -110 on the moneyline

O/U 8.5

There should be a heaving pitching advantage for the Diamondbacks tonight, which makes getting -110 on the moneyline really appealing. I like that as the best bet of the night. I would also take the Padres at +1.5 and then the under as well.
