MLB Best Bet For August 18, 2023 | Giants vs. Braves

We went 2-1 yesterday on the Diamondbacks vs. Padres game. We’re still having a bad week, though, with a 5-7 record and a loss of $-31.25. Hopefully we’ll have more luck in the southeast tonight with San Francisco visiting Atlanta.

The Pitchers

Atlanta’s Spencer Strider (13-4, 3.75 ERA) has won twice in his last three starts and has produced 32 total strikeouts in his last five appearances. He’s only allowing 2.6 earned runs in his last five starts which is more than a full run less than his season average.

San Francisco’s Alex Cobb (6-4, 3.62 ERA) hasn’t picked up a win since July 5th. He’s struggled to stay on the mound recently, failing to make it into the sixth inning three times in the last five appearances. He’s allowed an average of 3.8 earned runs per game during that stretch, which is higher than his season average.

The Lineups

San Francisco has only scored 16 runs over the last five games. The Giants are led, in scoring, by Wilmer Flores’ (16 HR), . LaMonte Wade Jr. (.258 batting average), and J.D. Davis (56 RBI).

Matt Olson has blasted 43 home runs, and knocked in 107 RBI for the Braves, while Ronald Acuna Jr. has a .335 batting average. Atlanta has scored 30 total runs over the last five games.

The Streaks

The Giants have lost three of their last five games, while the Braves has won four of the last five, including the last three in a row.

The Odds

Braves -1.5

Braves -238 on the moneyline

O/U 9

The Braves are huge favorites tonight, and rightfully so. They’re probably playing the best baseball in the league right now. I’ll take Atlanta at -1.5, and on the moneyline. The matchup with Spencer Strider should be advantageous to the Braves so I’ll take the under again with this one tonight.
