MLB Best Bet For September 4, 2023 | Giants vs. Cubs

We needed to go 3-0 with our Toronto/Colorado picks on Sunday to salvage a winning week and unfortunately that didn’t happen. A 1-2 record on the day placed us with another losing week, finishing 9-12 overall.

WeekRecordNet
July 31 – August 611-10$-2.86
August 7 – 1311-9-1$-1.59
August 14 – 2013-8$31.12
August 21 – 278-12-1$-59.51
August 28 – September 39-12$-42.61

A new week brings new optimism and new opportunity, hopefully we see both of those pay off with San Francisco (70-67) and the Chicago Cubs (73-64) this afternoon.

The Pitchers

San Francisco is putting Logan Webb (9-11, 3.49 ERA) on the mound in the Windy City. He hasn’t earned a win since August 2nd, but he is holding opponents to an average of just 2.6 earned runs per game over his last five starts.

Chicago’s Justin Steele (15-3, 2.69 ERA) is having a fantastic season! He’s won three times in his last five outings and is holding opponents to an average of 2.0 earned runs per game during that span.

The Lineups

The Giants are led from the plate by Wilmer Flores (20 HR), Thairo Estrada (.276 batting average), and J.D. Davis (60 RBI). San Francisco has scored 18 runs over the last five games.

Cody Bellenger is doing it all for the Cubs right now. He paces the team in home runs (23), batting average (.320), and RBI (84). Chicago has scored 27 runs over the last five games.

The Streaks

The Giants head to Chicago having lost two in a row and three of their last five games. Chicago’s 15-7 win over Cincinnati on Sunday snapped a 2-game winning streak.

The Odds

Cubs -1.5

Cubs -134 on the moneyline

O/U 9

I like the home team to win this game, but I think the Giants are able to keep it close. That’s why I’m also taking S.F. at +1.5. Nine runs may be a bit too much in this one, considering the starting pitchers, and San Francisco’s recent offensive woes. Let’s go with the under!
