We ended last week with a dud, going 1-2 on the Brewers/Yankees game, but we still ended the week on the plus side at 10-8. Now we’re off to a new week, and hopefully we can duplicate last week’s hot start, beginning with Saint Louis (63-80) and Baltimore (90-52) tonight.

The Pitchers
Dakota Hudson (6-1. 4.43 ERA) comes into this game on a bit of a hot streak. The Cardinals have won three of the last five games in which he’s been on the mound, and he’s allowing an average of 3.00 earned runs per contest during that stretch.
For Baltimore’s Dean Kremer (12-5, 4.07 ERA) it’s a similar story. The Orioles have won four of the last five games in which he took the mound. He’s posting an impressive 1.20 earned runs allowed per game during that stretch.
The Lineups
Nolan Gorman, Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt are the stars that power the St. Louis offense. Gorman leads the team with 27 home runs, while Arenado has knocked 88 RBI, and Goldschmidt is posting a .273 batting average. The Cardinals have scored 30 runs over the last five games.
Baltimore is powered by Anthony Santander and Austin Hays. Santander leads the Orioles in home runs (27) and RBI (83) while Hays leads the team in batting average (.284). The Orioles have scored 42 runs over the last five games.
The Streaks
Both teams open up this series having come off a loss. The Cardinals have won three of their last five games and for the Orioles, Sunday’s loss to Boston ended a 7-game winning streak.

Both teams are riding behind some pretty powerful offenses right now. The oddsmakers tend to thing St. Louis is going to cover at +1.5 and so do I. I still think Baltimore wins the game though, so they would be the play on the moneyline. The way these two teams have been hitting the ball makes me think the over is where we want to be tonight.
