Tonight’s Saints (1-0) vs. Panthers (0-1) game is pretty important to us. We’re sitting at 3-2-1 on our NFL picks for the weekend. Which, if you look a the odds, would put us in the negative around -$4.90 had we been placing $10 wagers on each pick. Obviously, we’re not really doing that but we still want to get our picks where they’re hitting positive results anyway. So, let’s talk about this game.
The Odds
Saints -3
Saints -160 on the moneyline
O/U 39.5
Why We’re Taking The Saints At -3
I’m usually on the side of the home underdogs in some aspect of the pick but not on this one. The primary reason is the defensive struggles that plagued Carolina in 2022 at least crept into Week 1 on the 2023 season when they gave up 24 points to the Falcons, with 14 of them coming in a fourth quarter collapse.
Why We’re Taking The Saints On The Moneyline
At least on paper, the Saints are the better team here. Even on the road, they’ve got the better offense, the better defense, and the better special teams. The old saying goes, “Games aren’t played on paper, they’re played on the field.” Well, that may be true but I’m betting that the paper pays off when these two teams hit the field.
Why We’re Taking The Under
I could be underselling the Panthers here, but I just don’t see enough in them to be confident at picking the over. They managed 10 points last weekend and the Saints are pretty equal to the Falcons defensively. Speaking of defense, that’s what Carolina does best. Let’s stick with the under on this one!
