Oklahoma is preparing to host Iowa State in its Big 12 home opener, but we’re going to take one look back at Nippert Stadium and OU’s 20-6 win over Cincinnati. According to our weekly poll, you guys voted Andrel Anthony’s 49-yard reception as the play of the game.
There were two obvious no calls that went against Oklahoma receivers on Saturday. One was Jalil Farooq getting mugged in the end zone and the other was this play right here. Anthony didn’t need the flag because he was able focus while absolutely getting fleeced and come down with the catch. His play helped set up Zach Schmit’s 30-yard field goal that extended OU’s lead to 20-6.
It wasn’t quite the runaway performance that Danny Stutsman had in last week’s poll, but Anthony did take a comfortable victory this week over Dillon Gabriel, Key Lawrence, and Nic Anderson. On the season, Anthony leads Oklahoma pass catchers with 371 yards on 21 receptions. He’s averaging 17.7 yards per catch.
Feel free to share your thoughts below. Do you agree with the vote? Did we miss a play that should have been an option?
