At 7-0, Oklahoma is already setting its sights on Lawrence, Kansas and maintaining a stronghold on the Big 12 Conference. However, as fans, we can still look back at the UCF and have a little more fun for the next day or so. The Sooners rallied, and then survived a late rally from the Knights, to secure Saturday’s homecoming win. It was a game that brought both frustration and elation from the fanbase, and was once again filled with some pretty terrific plays.
Which one do you think was the best?
Nic Anderson’s First Quarter Touchdown
This was the first of two scores on the day for Anderson and it was the first score for Oklahoma. The rise of Anderson has squelched some of the anxiety over the loss of Andrel Anthony, and the fact that he’s so young only boosts the excitement around him.
Drake Stoops Go-Ahead Score
For the second time in as many games, Oklahoma took the lead, in the fourth quarter, off a pass from Dillon Gabriel. This go around it was an 11-yard pass to Norman’s favorite son, Drake Stoops.
Gavin Sawchuk’s Insurance TD
It was good to see Sawchuk “breakout” and Oklahoma ultimately ended up needing this score. It was Sawchuk’s best game of the season, averaging 6.3 yards per carry and hopefully a glimpse of what is to come with him for the remainder of the season.
Kendel Dolby’s Tackle On The 2-Point Conversion
Sawchuk’s touchdown made things a bit more comfortable but it certainly didn’t put the game out of reach. The Sooners were finally able to close out the Knights on this defensive play. Dolby get’s credit for the takedown but Woodi Washington’s recognition of the play, and subsequent coverage allowed it to happen.
