You don’t become the top program in the country without filling your roster with the top players. That’s what puts Kinzie Hansen in our spotlight today. As Softball America continues to show love for the Sooners, the online publication has named Hansen as the top catcher in the nation ($) to start the 2024 college softball season.
In 2023 Kansen made 44 starts behind home plate and batted .409 with 13 home runs, 57 RBI, and 36 runs scored. Her average of 1.16 RBIs/game ranked seventh in the country, and held a .993 fielding percentage. Her biggest moment in 2023 came in the top of the seventh in Game Two of the Super Regional matchup against Clemson. With the team having two outs, and two runners on, Hansen took a ride deep to left field (having two strikes against her) for a three-run blast that led to Oklahoma punching its ticket to the Women’s College World Series.
At the Women’s College World Series, she hit .357 in the WCWS to earn All-Tournament honors, hitting one home run, one double and bringing in four runs while being perfect behind the plate at catcher.
The Sooners will start the 2024 softball season on February 8 at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge. They are the unanimous #1 team in the country and the odds on favorites to win an unprecedented fourth-consecutive national title.
