Sooner Softball Explodes for 15 Runs, Clinches Series Win Over Texas Tech in Lubbock

The No. 1-ranked Oklahoma Sooners continued their dominant run through the Big 12 conference with a resounding 15-2 victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Lubbock, Texas, on Saturday afternoon. The win secured the series victory for Oklahoma after their 14-0 shutout win on Friday.

Sooner Offense on Fire:

The Sooners wasted no time putting runs on the board, erupting for a massive 12-run first inning. Senior shortstop Tiare Jennings was a key contributor, driving in three RBIs. She finished the night going 2-for-2 from the plate and tied the program’s career double record with her 58th.

The rest of the Oklahoma lineup chipped in as well, with Rylie Boone, Jayda Coleman, and Cydney Sanders all contributing RBIs in the first inning onslaught. This offensive explosion effectively put the game out of reach early.

Deal Delivers Strong Performance:

Pitcher Kierston Deal was impressive in the circle for the Sooners. She tossed 3.1 strong innings, allowing just two runs on three hits. Deal, and the Sooner defense, kept the Red Raiders’ offense at bay, allowing the Oklahoma bats to do the damage. Karlie Keeney came on in relief for the final 1.2 innings and retired all six batters she faced to secure the win.

Key Moments:

  • Top of the 1st Inning: OU saw each of its first 12 batters reach in the inning on eight hits and four walks.
  • Top of the 5th Inning: After a scoreless stretch from both teams, Oklahoma added three more runs in the top of the fifth to put the game definitively out of reach.

Looking Ahead:

With this win, the Oklahoma Sooners improve their record to a perfect 26-1 overall and 5-0 in Big 12 conference play. They have now won 8 straight games and continue to display their offensive firepower and pitching dominance. They will look to maintain their momentum as they go for the sweep of the Red Raiders on Sunday.
