Oklahoma’s Jayda Coleman continued her scorching offensive streak this week, earning both National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) National Player of the Week and Big 12 Player of the Week honors. The announcement comes after a dominant performance that helped the top-ranked Sooners sweep then-ranked Kansas last weekend.
Coleman’s bat was nearly unstoppable, reaching base in a staggering 13 of her 14 plate appearances. She launched three home runs, drew seven walks, and went a blistering 6-for-7 at the plate, good for a .857 batting average. Her performance at the top of the Sooners’ lineup fueled their offense, as she scored eight runs across the series.
This award marks an impressive achievement for both Coleman and the Oklahoma program. It’s the fourth consecutive week a Sooner has been named Big 12 Player of the Week, with four different players earning the distinction. This accomplishment is unmatched in conference history, showcasing the depth and overall talent of the Oklahoma squad.
Coleman’s hot streak extends far beyond the Kansas series. She carries a remarkable 22-game on-base streak into this weekend, slashing an eye-popping .587/.720/1.217 with a staggering 1.937 OPS over that stretch. Her dominance is further highlighted by her plate discipline. Over the past 22 games, she’s struck out a mere once in 76 plate appearances, while drawing a remarkable 26 walks.
Overall this season, Coleman leads the Sooners with a .466 batting average and has crossed the plate a team-high 45 times. She’s added eight home runs and 27 RBIs, while reaching base at a .589 clip and slugging a ridiculous .818 for an impressive 1.407 OPS.
This is Coleman’s fourth career Big 12 Player of the Week honor, solidifying her status as one of the top offensive threats in the conference.
