The Oklahoma Sooners softball team continues to be a powerhouse, gobbling up a conference-leading nine All-Big 12 selections – the most in program history since 1996. This smorgasbord of honors announced Wednesday serves as a delicious appetizer for the postseason banquet the Sooners are undoubtedly preparing to dominate.
Leading the charge is the ever-reliable catcher Kinzie Hansen, who not only secured a First-Team All-Big 12 nod but also snatched the coveted Defensive Player of the Year award. Hansen’s season behind the plate has been a master class in game-calling and pitch framing, with a cannon for an arm. This well-deserved recognition makes her the sixth consecutive and ninth overall Sooner to claim this defensive crown.
But the Sooners’ offensive firepower is no afterthought. Joining Hansen on the First-Team All-Big 12 are a quartet of offensive juggernauts: senior outfielder Jayda Coleman, graduate pitcher Kelly Maxwell, and senior infielders Tiare Jennings and Alyssa Brito. Coleman, a four-time First-Team selection, has been a scoring machine, while Jennings, another four-time honoree, has launched a team-high 19 home runs and driven in a staggering 56 RBIs. This offensive onslaught is simply the best in the league.
The accolades don’t stop there. Oklahoma added four players to the Second-Team All-Big 12, including senior outfielder Rylie Boone, sophomore pitcher Kierston Deal, freshman utility Ella Parker, and senior infielder Alynah Torres. Freshman outfielder Kasidi Pickering rounds out the Sooners’ honorees with a well-deserved All-Big 12 Freshman Team selection.
This comprehensive display of talent on the All-Big 12 teams is a testament to the depth and skill of Head Coach Patty Gasso’s squad. With the postseason arriving, the Sooners are a team with a hearty appetite for victory. They’ve dominated the regular season accolades, and they’re undoubtedly hungry for more hardware in the postseason.
