Saturday’s WCWS Recap
The Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns both secured victories on Saturday, punching their tickets to the National Semifinals of the Women’s College World Series.
OU Shuts Down UCLA
The Sooners relied on a masterful performance from pitcher Kelly Maxwell who struck out a season-high 11 batters to lead Oklahoma to a 1-0 shutout victory over UCLA. Maxwell kept the Bruins’ star player Maya Brady guessing all day, striking her out three times. This was the first time all season Brady had been struck out more than twice in a game.
Texas Dominates Florida
The Longhorns continued their impressive pitching streak with a dominant 10-0 win over Florida. Junior pitcher Mac Morgan threw a one-hit shutout, following up on freshman Teagan Kavan’s shutout performance earlier in the tournament. Texas’ offense also exploded, putting up a school record for most runs in a WCWS game with three home runs and capitalizing on early struggles from Florida’s ace pitcher.
What’s Next?
Both Oklahoma and Texas get a day off to rest before playing in the National Semifinals on Monday. The Sooners will face the winner of Sunday’s matchup between Alabama and Florida, while the Longhorns will take on the winner of Stanford and UCLA. With their victories on Saturday, both OU and Texas only need to win one game on Monday to advance to the best-of-three championship series. Their opponents will need to force a second game on Monday, and win that one as well, in order to stay alive.

Sunday’s Schedule
- Game 9: Alabama vs. Florida (2 p.m. | ABC) – Winner plays Oklahoma in the National Semifinals on Monday.
- Game 10: Stanford vs. UCLA (6 p.m. | ESPN2) – Winner plays Texas in the National Semifinals on Monday.
