Gordon, the reigning Doak Walker and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award winner, is a generational talent who can carry the offense on his shoulders. Bowman, entering his seventh season of college football, brings experience and leadership to the quarterback position.
The offensive line returns as one of the most experienced units in the nation, providing a solid foundation for the offense. A deep and talented receiving corps, led by Brennan Presley and Rashod Owens, gives Bowman multiple options to distribute the ball.
Defense: Building on a Solid Foundation
While the Oklahoma State defense showed improvement in 2023, there’s still room for growth. The return of key contributors like linebacker Nick Martin and safeties Kendal Daniels and Trey Rucker provides a solid base for the unit.
The defensive line is a work in progress, but the addition of transfer Obi Ezeigbo brings potential to the position. Developing a consistent pass rush will be crucial for the Cowboys’ defensive success.
Special Teams: A Reliable Unit
The Cowboys will look to replace All-Big 12 kicker Alex Hale, but the return of punter Hudson Kaak and the dynamic return abilities of Brennan Presley provide a solid foundation for the special teams unit.
Outlook: A Strong Contender
With a high-powered offense, a solid defense, and a veteran-laden roster, Oklahoma State is poised for another successful season. The Cowboys have the potential to be a legitimate contender for the Big 12 title and a dark horse in the College Football Playoff race.
The challenge for Mike Gundy and his staff will be to maintain consistency throughout the season and avoid the pitfalls that plagued them in previous years. If the Cowboys can do that, they have the talent and experience to compete at the highest level.
