Perfection! Landry’s Perfect Game Seals OU’s Sunday Sweep

Sooners Extend Unbeaten Streak to 10-0 with Victories Over Hofstra and No. 23 Baylor

The No. 3 Oklahoma Sooners wrapped up an impressive weekend at the Getterman Classic in Waco, Texas, with back-to-back run-rule victories on Sunday. OU (10-0) took down Hofstra 11-3 in five innings before capping off the day with an 8-0 win over No. 23 Baylor, highlighted by a perfect game from senior pitcher Sam Landry.

Game 1: Oklahoma 11, Hofstra 3 (5 innings)

Despite frigid conditions delaying the start by an hour, the Sooners’ bats remained red-hot. Led by two-RBI performances from Ella Parker and Ailana Agbayani, Oklahoma scored in every inning to secure a commanding win over Hofstra (0-4).

Early Setback, Quick Response

Hofstra managed to strike first, capitalizing on an early error and small-ball execution to take a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Oklahoma starter Paytn Monticelli struggled with control, hitting the first batter and giving up an RBI groundout. However, the Sooners wasted no time responding.

Abigale Dayton led off with a walk, and Parker doubled her home. Parker then took third on a throw, allowing Kasidi Pickering’s bunt to score her and tie the game at 2-2. Sydney Barker added a sacrifice fly, and Agbayani tacked on an RBI single, putting Oklahoma ahead 4-2 after one.

Hofstra’s Alanna Morse briefly cut into the lead with a solo home run in the second, but Monticelli was relieved by freshman Audrey Lowry, who quickly shut down the Pride’s offense.

Sooners Keep Pouring It On

In the second inning, Parker continued her weekend dominance with another RBI double to extend the lead to 5-3. Barker tripled in the third and came home on an Agbayani groundout to push the advantage to 6-3.

Oklahoma’s offense broke the game open in the fourth, scoring four runs. Dayton’s speed created havoc, forcing an error after a bunt single. Parker was intentionally walked, but Cydney Sanders made Hofstra pay with an RBI double. More aggressive baserunning allowed Sanders and Pickering to score on fielding miscues, putting OU up 9-3. Agbayani then executed a perfect rundown play to bring home Nelly McEnroe-Marinas.

Strange But Fitting Walk-Off

The game ended in the fifth with one of the most bizarre home runs in recent memory. Freshman Tia Milloy lifted a deep fly to center, where Hofstra’s Chelsea Villar leaped for the catch. Instead of securing the out, the ball ricocheted off Villar’s glove and over the wall, sealing the run-rule victory.

Lowry finished with a career-high eight strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work, allowing no hits or walks.

Game 2: Oklahoma 8, Baylor 0 (5 innings) – Landry’s Perfect Game

In what was supposed to be Oklahoma’s first true test of the season against a ranked opponent, the Sooners delivered a flawless performance. Senior pitcher Sam Landry was untouchable, retiring all 15 batters she faced on just 56 pitches to record the 22nd perfect game in program history.

Early Offense Provides Cushion

Oklahoma wasted no time getting on the board, striking for three runs in the top of the first. Parker and Sanders singled before Pickering walked to load the bases. McEnroe-Marinas delivered an RBI single, scoring Parker, while Sydney Barker followed with a two-run double off the right-center wall to give the Sooners a 3-0 lead.

In the third inning, the Sooners put the game out of reach. After Sanders and Pickering reached base, Agbayani blasted her first home run of the season, a three-run shot over the left-center wall to extend the lead to 6-0.

Sealing the Run-Rule Victory

Oklahoma added two more runs in the fifth to enact the mercy rule. Pickering, who had struggled at the plate earlier in the weekend, came through with a key RBI double, scoring Sanders. McEnroe-Marinas then laced a single to left, driving in Pickering to finalize the 8-0 victory.

Landry needed just 56 pitches, striking out eight, as Baylor never managed to hit the ball out of the infield. It marked OU’s second perfect game of the young season, following Isabella Smith’s gem against Cal Baptist.
