The Oklahoma Sooners continued their undefeated run through the 2025 season with a dominant 10-2 victory over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Wednesday night at Collins Family Softball Complex. This marked the second meeting between the two in-state programs this season, with Oklahoma once again emerging victorious via the run rule.
Head coach Patty Gasso’s squad handled business in its midweek contest, ensuring no slip-ups as the Sooners briefly stepped out of SEC play. Oklahoma’s offense erupted for double-digit runs, while the pitching staff, led by freshman Audrey Lowry and returning arm Sam Landry, kept the Tulsa bats largely in check.
Agbayani Leads the Offensive Onslaught
Second baseman Ailana Agbayani played a pivotal role in Oklahoma’s offensive explosion, driving in five runs on the night. The No. 1-ranked Sooners scored in four different innings, putting consistent pressure on the Tulsa defense.
Oklahoma (23-0, 3-0 SEC) wasted little time getting on the board, with freshman shortstop Gabbie Garcia continuing her recent power surge. After homering in her fifth consecutive game last weekend, Garcia launched a solo home run in the second inning to break a scoreless tie. The blast marked her seventh home run of the season and her sixth in the past seven games.
Cydney Sanders kept the momentum rolling with a double down the left field line, and Agbayani brought her home with an RBI single that ricocheted off Tulsa pitcher Maura Moore’s glove. Oklahoma had an opportunity to do even more damage in the frame, loading the bases, but Moore managed to escape without further harm.
Tulsa (12-12) briefly responded in the bottom of the second when freshman catcher Amber Turner hit her first collegiate home run, a solo shot to left field, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
Sooners Keep Applying Pressure
Oklahoma quickly answered in the third inning. Nelly McEnroe-Marinas reached base after being hit by a pitch, and Garcia singled through the right side to set the table. Sanders followed with an RBI single to extend the lead, and Agbayani drove in her second run of the game with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1.
Lowry started the game in the circle for the Sooners, working into the third inning before Gasso turned to Sam Landry in relief. Landry, who had missed the South Carolina series due to concussion protocol, wasted no time making an impact. After allowing a single to her first batter, she induced an inning-ending double play, showcasing Oklahoma’s defensive prowess.
Barker Adds Firepower, Agbayani Seals the Deal
The Sooners extended their lead further in the fourth inning. Sydney Barker, who entered the game in place of Ella Parker, delivered her fourth home run of the season, a two-run blast to right field. With two outs in the inning, Garcia walked, Sanders was hit by a pitch, and Agbayani struck again, lacing an RBI single up the middle to push the lead to 7-1.
Tulsa refused to go away quietly. Turner, who already homered earlier in the game, doubled down the left field line in the bottom of the fourth, bringing in another run to trim Oklahoma’s lead to 7-2.
But Agbayani wasn’t finished tormenting the Golden Hurricane. In the sixth inning, she delivered the knockout punch, smashing a two-run triple to center field to bring her RBI total to five. Corri Hicks followed with an RBI groundout to bring Agbayani home, putting the Sooners ahead by eight runs and activating the run-rule.
Landry Closes the Door
With the game in hand, Landry finished strong. She retired the final seven batters she faced, showcasing the depth and dominance of Oklahoma’s pitching staff. Landry’s return was a major storyline, and she delivered in a big way, throwing 3.2 innings of relief, striking out five, and allowing just three hits and one run. She improved to 6-0 on the season.
Lowry, making her second consecutive start after a stellar performance against South Carolina, pitched 2.1 innings, striking out four and allowing two hits, including Turner’s solo homer.
Looking Ahead
Wednesday’s win reinforced Oklahoma’s standing as the premier team in college softball. Agbayani’s breakout performance, Garcia’s continued power display, and Landry’s successful return all point to a Sooners team that is hitting its stride as SEC play heats up.
With the win, Oklahoma improved to 50-10 all-time against Tulsa and remained undefeated on the season. The Sooners will now turn their attention back to conference play with a marquee matchup against No. 12 Arkansas in Fayetteville. The three-game series kicks off Friday at 6 p.m. CT, as OU looks to continue its dominance against top-tier competition.
