Oklahoma Softball Shows Grit & Power in Twin Bill Victory Over Razorbacks

In a thrilling Saturday doubleheader, No. 1 Oklahoma Softball (25-0, 5-0 SEC) extended its undefeated record with a pair of hard-fought victories over No. 15 Arkansas (20-5, 1-4 SEC) at Bogle Park in Fayetteville. Sam Landry was the hero of the day, pitching nine scoreless innings across both games, earning a complete-game shutout in the opener and securing a save in game two. The Sooners’ offense came alive late in both contests, scoring 11 of their 13 combined runs from the fifth inning onward.

Game 1: Oklahoma 7, Arkansas 0

The opening game of the doubleheader was a pitcher’s duel until the final frame, with Landry dominating in the circle while the Sooners’ bats erupted late to put the game away.

Early Pitching Battle

Oklahoma struck first in the top of the first inning when Nelly McEnroe-Marinas crushed a solo home run to left field, setting the tone for the Sooners. Arkansas threatened in the bottom half, putting two runners aboard, but Landry escaped trouble with the help of a well-timed double play.

From there, both teams struggled to find offensive momentum. Landry and Arkansas pitcher Robyn Herron traded zeroes, with Oklahoma holding onto its slim 1-0 lead through six innings.

Seventh-Inning Explosion

The Sooners finally broke through in the top of the seventh. McEnroe-Marinas drove in a run with a slow roller down the first-base line with the bases loaded. Cydney Sanders followed with a two-RBI double down the left-field line, making it 4-0. Gabbie Garcia added to the damage with a two-RBI single up the middle, and Ailana Agabayani capped the scoring with an RBI single through the right side.

Landry sealed the shutout with a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh, earning her third complete-game win of the season.

Game 2: Oklahoma 6, Arkansas 4

Arkansas came out strong in the second game, but the Sooners’ relentless offense and clutch pitching turned the tide in the late innings.

Razorbacks Strike First

Kierston Deal got the start for Oklahoma and struck out three in the first inning, but Arkansas broke through in the third. Kailey Wyckoff led off with a double, and Bri Ellis followed with a single. A throwing error allowed both runners to advance, setting up Raigan Kramer for an RBI single. Ella McDowell then added an RBI groundout, giving the Razorbacks a 2-0 lead.

Oklahoma’s Response

The Sooners began their comeback in the fourth when Garcia extended her hitting streak to 11 games with an RBI double, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

Oklahoma took the lead in the fifth on a towering two-run homer by Isabela Emerling, her team-leading eighth of the season, putting the Sooners ahead 3-2. However, Arkansas answered in the bottom half, tying the game on a McDowell RBI single and retaking the lead on a sacrifice bunt by Atalya Rijo.

Pickering and McEnroe-Marinas Deliver

Kasidi Pickering tied the game with a solo blast in the sixth. With the bases loaded later in the inning, freshman Sydney Barker showed patience at the plate, drawing a walk to force in the go-ahead run.

In the seventh, McEnroe-Marinas added an insurance run with an RBI single. Landry, who entered in the sixth, shut the door on Arkansas, securing her second save of the season.
