Oklahoma Softball’s impressive debut season in the Southeastern Conference continues to be recognized, as two Sooners earned SEC weekly honors on March 18. Freshman infielder Gabbie Garcia was named SEC Co-Player of the Week, while right-handed pitcher Sam Landry secured SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week.
Garcia’s Historic Streak Keeps Rolling
Garcia has now garnered SEC weekly honors in back-to-back weeks after previously earning SEC Freshman of the Week on March 11. Her latest award comes after a dominant offensive showing that saw her hit .538 with three home runs, eight RBIs, and six runs scored. The Chandler, Arizona, native also posted an impressive 1.308 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base percentage during Oklahoma’s perfect 4-0 week, which included a statement sweep over No. 15/12 Arkansas.
For the season, Garcia is hitting .379 with nine home runs, 22 RBIs, and a team-best 12-game hitting streak. She also made history by homering in five consecutive games, a feat no OU freshman had accomplished since the legendary Jocelyn Alo did it in 2018.
Landry Shines in the Circle
Landry, meanwhile, continues to solidify herself as one of the top pitchers in the nation. She appeared in all four of OU’s wins last week, going 2-0 with two saves while posting a minuscule 0.47 ERA. The right-hander struck out 15 batters and threw a complete-game shutout in the Sooners’ 7-0 series-opening win at Arkansas. She then closed out the series with saves in games two and three, helping OU complete the sweep.
This marks Landry’s second SEC Pitcher of the Week honor this season, with her first coming after throwing a perfect game against Baylor in February. She currently holds a perfect 7-0 record with three saves and ranks second among active NCAA Division I pitchers in career wins (70), trailing only her OU teammate, Isabella Smith (77 wins).
Sooners Piling Up SEC Awards
Oklahoma has wasted no time making its presence felt in the SEC, racking up six conference weekly honors this season. Sophomore Ella Parker set the tone by winning the first two SEC Player of the Week awards of 2025, and now Garcia and Landry are adding to the Sooners’ collection.
