While Sategna emerged as one of the SEC’s premier playmakers and Deion Burks provided a dependable second option, the Sooners simply lacked the depth to punish defenses for loading coverage toward their top targets. As injuries mounted and the season wore on, Oklahoma’s passing game became increasingly predictable.
That shouldn’t be a problem in 2026.
General manager Jim Nagy and offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle attacked the position aggressively during the offseason, turning what was once a top-heavy unit into arguably the deepest wide receiver room Brent Venables has coached in Norman.
If John Mateer takes the next step, this position group may be the biggest reason why.
