For the Oklahoma Sooners to repeat as Big 12 champions and make the College Football Playoff once again in 2016 they’ll most likely need to do something they haven’t accomplished since the 2012 season. They’re going to have to beat TCU in Ft. Worth.
Oklahoma is 4-1 against TCU since the Frogs joined the Big 12 but winning in Ft. Worth has turned out to be quite the chore. The Sooners lost to the third ranked Horned Frogs 37-33 in 2014, and escaped with a 24-17 win in 2012.
That 2012 game was the season finale and helped the Sooners qualify to play in the Cotton Bowl. In that game, Landry Jones completed 22/40 passes for 244 yards and two scores while Damien Williams ran for 115 yards and another score on 18 carries.
The Sooners held a 14-7 lead at the half and held TCU to a 10-10 draw through the final thirty minutes of the game to secure the win. It didn’t come easy in 2012 and it won’t be easy in 2016 but it’ll most certainly be necessary for OU to accomplish their season goals.
